WDR Big Band
Corporate design, development and implementation
As part of the WDR-umbrella brand strategy, we created a new visual identity for the renowned WDR Big Band, inspired by 1950s Blue Note era record covers. Reminiscent of their experimental aesthetics, the new look comprises toppled typography, an intense black and orange contrast, and a generally smoky atmosphere around the imagery. The interplay of design elements was specified in the corporate design manual and implemented in various applications, such as the 2014/2015 season booklet, event branding, and merchandising products.
