Shared space
Bergmannstrasse
Design in a public space
Striving to make the city’s public space more attractive, the Berlin Senate initiated a pilot project: redesigning Bergmannstraße to become an “encounter zone”. Our part in it was to develop an overall visual concept. Berg-Mann-Straße: the basic form for its appearance is a triangle symbolising the hill (“Berg” in German), forming large-scale ground markings. They mark the entrance to the “encounter zone” while, at the same time, reminding drivers to slow down. In cooperation with Birgit Hammer landscape architecture office, we have designed modular street furniture that creates space for residents and visitors to relax and socialise. In March 2018, the first parklets were opened for the test phase.
